Wolangchung Gola Woolen Carpets

 

Production Area: Wolangchung Gola (3200 m), Taplejung district, Eastern Nepal.

 

Weaving Process: Carpets from Wolangchung Gola are hand weaved mostly by women members of the households after finishing the daily chores. Carpet weaving in Wolangcung Gola is a social affair that engages a whole family in the process of threading, spinning and weaving. On average it takes at least 15 days to hand weave a carpet.

 

Natural Product: Every ingredient used in carpets from Wolangchung Gola is natural. The wool comes from sheep, thread is threaded and spinned from cotton and dyes (colors) are prepared from local plants found in the area.

 

Plants used and color produced:

Walnut: brown

Thotne: Yellow, green and dark brown

Khokkim: Pink, peach and brown

Bhuichuk, Searchu, Phidok, Qukima, Tyojung: for other colors

 

Carpet weavers are capable of weaving carpets in any size and design desired.
